Energy Efficiency Rebates Guide

Whether you’re located in Woodstock or Dunwoody, Senoia or Stockbridge, Georgia homeowners should take advantage of energy efficiency rebates when upgrading appliances. Appliances and systems that use less energy lead to a greener home, lower energy bills and less reliance on electricity. When you’re ready to buy, don’t purchase just any appliance. Look for energy-efficient, green systems that don’t sacrifice comfort and convenience for performance.

Here’s a rundown of the rebates available in the state and through federal programs:

Georgia Power Rebates

Purchase a new appliance and get a system with improved, high-tech features that make life more convenient and help save energy at the same time. Here are the energy efficiency rebates Georgia Power offers:

  • $25 rebate for purchasing a clothes washer that’s ENERGY STAR certified
  • $25 rebate for purchasing a refrigerator 7.75 cubic feet or more that’s ENERGY STAR certified
  • $20 rebate for the purchase of a freezer 7.75 cubic feet or more that passes the ENERGY STAR certification
  • $25 energy efficiency rebate for a room air conditioner that’s ENERGY STAR certified
  • If you decide to buy a new fridge, don’t waste the rebate opportunity. Georgia Power is offering $50 to customers who schedule refrigerator recycling pickup.

These rebates expire on November 30, 2014, so don’t wait to make the buy. Only Georgia Power customers can get these rebates. Get more information about all of the available rebates on the Georgia Power website.

Solar Rebates

State and manufacturer rebates are available to homeowners who invest in a home photovoltaic (solar panel) system. You can choose to install solar-ready HVAC equipment and secure manufacturer rebates or to install solar panels to power some of your home’s systems—or all of your home’s electrical power—and get generous rebates from the utility company. For example, Cobb Energy Management Corporation (EMC) offers a $450 rebate per kilowatt and $450 for an installed solar water heating system.

Geothermal Rebates

Instead of paying high electrical bills over the long summer months, and even during winter, consider investing in geothermal heating and cooling. The systems use energy sourced from the ground for heating, and in summer, they reverse the process. To cool the home, the geothermal system draws heat energy from inside the home, and sends it back into the ground, which acts as a heat sink.

Geothermal systems score high marks for performance, efficiency and return on investment. And you can get rebates from EMC totaling $1,000 for the purchase of the system, according to Georgia Rebates. The federal government is still offering rebates for geothermal purchases through December 31, 2016. The rebate is 30 percent of the purchase and installation price.

ENERGY STAR

Buy ENERGY STAR-certified equipment, and you’ll get an instant savings. That’s because the certified appliances must pass stringent energy-efficiency testing to prove that they use considerably less energy than their non-ENERGY STAR counterparts, anywhere from 10 to 30 percent less.
