A Plumber's Black Friday

People look forward to Thanksgiving day because who doesn’t love amazing food? Everyone spends the day stuffing the turkey, mashing the potatoes and baking the yummy pies. Thanksgiving is definitely a day for food! The day after thanksgiving, is a plumber’s worst nightmare…

After everyone is finished eating, it’s time to clean up! This means scraping the plates in the garbage disposal and cramming as much food down the drain as possible because who wants to deal with the extra step of scraping it into the trash can? The number one reason for plumbing calls on Black Friday is a clogged kitchen sink or clogged garbage disposal! Who would’ve thought?!

The next top issue for plumbers on black Friday is clogged toilets and sewage lines… Gross, we know… However, this is caused by the guests staying at homes they’re not used to!

Here are the top plumbing DO NOTs this Thanksgiving holiday:

  1. Do NOT wash any oils, fats or greases down the drain.
  2. Do NOT put any stringy or starchy waste down your garbage disposal. This includes celery, meat skins, and potatoes. Just don’t do it.
  3. Do NOT wait until the garbage disposal seems full to turn it on. This is definitely an important one to watch out for. Every so often, turn it on for a few seconds to clear it out.
  4. Do NOT flush toiletries down the toilet of ANY KIND. You should probably make sure your guests know this too. Better safe than sorry…
  5. DO make sure your guests also know to wait about 10-15 minutes in between showers in order to let the water drain.

Lastly, even though pasta is not necessarily a classic Thanksgiving dish (unless maybe you’re Italian), pasta is by far one of the worst things you can put down your garbage disposal. So, just for safe measures, DON’T do that either.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Remember, Reliable Heating & Air is here 24/7 for all of your plumbing needs. Call or text us at 770-594-9969.
