What the Program Does
Sunshine on a Ranney Day is a program that helps give children with disabilities or long-term illnesses a little bit of joy and light through room makeovers. Reliable Heating & Air is helping with Charlie’s room. Charlie is a teenage boy diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and who needs wheelchair access for his bedroom.
Transforming Charlie’s Room
Being wheelchair-bound makes performing life’s small tasks a challenge. His wheelchair can’t make it to the second floor of the home where all of the other bedrooms are located. Instead, he makes the first-floor den his bedroom. The makeover of the den includes switching out the carpet in favor of wheelchair-friendly laminate flooring, creating a new bathroom and transforming the dining room into a media room that all of Charlie’s teen friends and his siblings can enjoy.
Reliable is participating in the building of the new bathroom by offering our electrical and plumbing services. With this new bathroom, Charlie will be able to easily navigate into and out of the bathroom, and he will no longer require assistance with getting into the bathroom to perform daily hygiene tasks. How to Help
You can help fund the current makeovers Ranney Day has taken on for Tashawn, a young boy with cerebral palsy and a seizure disorder, and Alissa, a young girl with medical problems from birth. Their makeover will give them a wheelchair-accessible home and remodel the bathroom with a roll-in shower.
A makeover for Callie, a girl with Williams syndrome and a number of other life-threatening comorbidities, gave her a jungle-themed room makeover. Ranney Day has already completed four other makeovers in 2014. They have completed nine room makeovers in 2012 and 2013 with support and donations from individuals and area businesses like Reliable.
